Behind the Dance: Pattycake Polka and Children

Posted on November 27, 2014 at 9:30 PM

On November 24 and 25 I was blessed with teaching and leading dance to about 650 elementary students at Barrington Elementary in Upper Arlington Schools. The physical education and music teachers worked together to schedule classes in grades 1-5 in 12 different sessions over the two days.

It was a learning experience for me to teach and lead dance for this age without their families present. I was quite appreciative of the teachers giving me a few tips along the way about adjusting the dances especially for children in grades one and two.

Dances included Lancaster Barn Dance, Pattycake Polka, Grand March, Swingin, King Tut, Seven Jumps, and Klapptanz. Dance formations included circle, line, and scattered.  Contact me if I can help you with a dance program for elementary age children. Enjoy the video of people dancing Pattycake Polka.
