Each Dancer Has A Story

Posted on August 4, 2011 at 11:49 AM

It has been a privilege over the last 30 years to lead hundreds of dances and thousands of dancers to a fun time and enjoying the company of other dancers. I've learned through the years that each dancer has a story. Some people have loved dancing for years, some dance reluctantly, some meet their spouse to be at a dance, and some learn to dance for the first time at one of my dances. Some are able to really hear the music well enough for the first time to fully experience dancing.

The last two years, I've had the honor of leading square, round and line dancing at the Thurston Family Reunion in Delaware County, Ohio. I knew going into the 2010 reunion that one of the family members, Laurie Pullins,  would be square dancing for the first time after having cochlear implants. I enjoyed talking to Laurie before the dance and discovered this family reunion was the first time she was hearing the voices of many family members. Laurie shared with me at the 2011 family reunion that she had recently written a blog article, This Is Why I Dance..., at her blog site, Dance With Sound. I encourage you to read this post and learn more about Laurie and her journey. It's an inspirational story.

This makes me wonder how many more stories can I discover on the dance floor. I look forward to sharing more of these stories with you.
