I have had a number of occasions to lead dances for homeschool groups. Every time the dances have been a great success. These are family based events. There is nothing better than a dance started off with prayer and thanks being given to God for the opportunity to gather together, exercising the freedoms afforded in the United States, and enjoying the company of other friends in faith.
The characteristics of homeshool group events include good participation, politeness, wilingness to learn, wilingness to try new dances, and great cooperation among dancers.
One homeschool group likes to square dance in the fall. They gather in a farm shop, bring food to share and have all ages in the family attend. We throw in some line and round dancing as well.
Another event was several homeschool graduates holding their graduation party together. They wanted to work swing and jitterbug dancing into the mix along with line and round dancing.
Another group has an annual dance (their version of a prom) in May. I cooperated with a DJ who played contermporary Christian music. He and I bounced back and forth. I worked in line and round dancing with a touch of folk dancing. I did a couple of trio formations like Texas Schottische for Three and Troika since there were many more girls than boys. Trio formations help with that kind of balance.
Feel free to contact me to help you with a dance program at your home school event. We can discuss what you want to accomplish and how to have an event filled with fun and fellowship.
