Are you a person who has never square danced, or hasn't square danced since gym class in elementary or junior high school? Are you worried you will look silly and won't be able to figure it out? Nearly every dance I call includes people in this category. In fact, this described me at a youth conference I attended in July of 1977.

Building a Square, Round and Line Dancing Community in Ohio

Over the past nearly 40 years I have interacted with many people, young and old, who enjoy hoedown (traditional) square dancing and line and round dancing. I first experienced line dancing in the early 1970s at 4-H Camp Ohio near Utica. In 1977, I first experienced square and round dancing at an Ohio Farm Bureau Youth Conference in Bluffton, OH. In 1981, I decided to start calling square dances and leading simple line and round dances.
